I didn't see an expiry date...and the press release on the site may be outdated...since it has definitely been six weeks past the release date.

Holt Private Shopping Night Again ( I think )
Missed the one last Wednesday? No worries. The girls at the Dior boutique (the best boutique in my humble opinion ;) ) mentioned that there will be another one on November 15. Funny how this jacket I've been eyeing looks better AFTER the shopping night is over. I hope it's still there in November. Maybe I should go hide it.
I just read the following in Wikipedia -
Holt Renfrew's shoe contract with Browns shoes Ltd. ends in 2007. Holt Renfrew plans to expand its designer shoe selection thereafter. The Bloor Street store in Toronto will open new shoe shops for Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik.
We are not Bloor but with the new Holt opening in Pacific Centre in 2007, I imagine it will be just as glorious.

Best Spots for Hip Denim

Summer is winding down and it's probably a good time to start contemplating your fall and winter wardrobes - that is if you haven't done so already. As the end of shorts season rapidly approaches, you might consider adding some fresh denim to your collection.
According to FASHION Magazine's online roundup, there's no shortage of cool places to find hip denim in Canada - especially in Vancouver. Included on the list are Jonathan + Olivia and Lark 8th Ave, two Main St. area retailers that have caught some well-deserved buzz of late. It is worth noting that Lark 8th Ave has one of the best selections of Nudie and sister brand Denimbird in town.
Now if only this skinny jean fad would hurry up and die already!

Seriously?!
The Downtown Bay as a hidden fashion secret? Seriously?
Seriously.
I kid you not. I decided to swing by their 3rd floor and what did I find? Uh, Kookai, NafNaf, Chulo Pony, Carbon Orchid, Tension, David Bitton, Guess, Nine West Clothing, Calvin Klein, Lida Baday AND apparently Mackage and Soia & Kyo (have you seen their amazing line of outerwear?) Ok, so we are totally venturing towards boutique territory here...and at the Bay...the store that traded beaver pelts (or whatever) and created those big wool blankets with the yellow, red, and green stripes. Seriously.
*Soia & Kyo Jacket
Interesting note, did you know that the Hudson's Bay Company is the oldest commercial corporation in North America and is one of the oldest in the world? In fact, its initials have often been satirically interpreted as "Here Before Christ".

Shopoholism
Oh My Gawd.
It is real. It exists.
I found this on WebMD...a true legit health site.
Shopoholism
"There are certainly a lot of commonalities among shopoholics and other addicts," says Engs. "For instance, while alcoholics will hide their bottles, shopoholics will hide their purchases."
What else should a concerned family member or friend look out for when they think shopping has become a problem?
* Spending over budget.
* Compulsive buying.
* Hiding the problem.
* A vicious circle.
* Impaired relationships.
* Clear consequences.
3.5 out of 6 means I'm in the clear right?

Fresh Look
Got tired of that pedestrian-looking default banner so I whipped up a new one to replace it. Hope you all like it.

Wheeeeeee Topshop Coming To America
We love Topshop, oh yes we do. I still remember my first time there...mouth agape, saliva drooling and all over their clothes...nevermind that hottie Tyrese was performing about 15 feet away. Well, the buzz is that Topshop is finally looking to open in the USA. Ok, so that's not as exciting as if I were to say that they were opening stores in Canada, but don't we have so many more friends living in the States who come visit us more often than those residing in the UK? Teeheeheehee. (I know y'all giggling inside along with me.) The intial news had Topshop planning for a huge location to open in 2007 NYC, with six or seven more shops throughout the US to follow...BUT...I just read this the following:
Topshop will start off small (if you can call between 60,000 - 90,00 square feet "small", that is), with just one store - similar to the flagship Oxford Street store - on American soil. Just where it will be, though, remains a mystery, with owner Philip Green letting slip recently that the presumed front runner, New York city, may not be his first choice.
I'm just praying for Seattle...pleeeeeeeeze...

Support the Local
When it comes to shopping online regularly at US and UK based websites, I'm pretty much guilty as charged. The options are plentiful and the prices can be very reasonable, depending on the particulars. That is not to say however that we don't have a bevy of very cool shops right in our own backyard in Vancouver. These unique & indepedent retailers serve as helpful tastemakers; assisting those who are looking for something slightly off the beaten path from what you might find at the local mega-mall.
The best way to get a list of many of these cool and funky stores is to pick up a Modern Urban Guide for the neighbourhood you are interested in (Vancouver East, Vancouver West, Vancouver Downtown, etc.) If you've never come across these very useful, full-color guides before, then check out the Modern Urban Guides website for online versions of the listings.
You're more than likely to find some interesting local businesses that you didn't previously know about. Happy hunting!
